Coming and going

I was trying to take a special photo for a very good friend of mine for Mother’s Day… she is the owner of Magic’s first cria. Her alpacas board here so she doesn’t get to see her babies unless I take pictures.

I tried to get a good shot for quite awhile but this little alpaca was just a brown blur. This time I can’t blame the camera… it was definitely me. I’m moving too slow or he’s moving too fast.

I didn’t know whether he was coming or going! His mother Bianca has plenty of milk and her little cria has a lot of energy to burn off. I stayed in one spot and every time he would run by I’d try to get another shot. Finally I had a couple of photos come out pretty nice. I caught him in the air… Happy Mother’s Day!

Out of focus

Heads up to anyone that owns a Pentax K5 camera because the auto focus on some of the K5′s needs to be calibrated. It appears that some of the K5 cameras are back focusing. Last year when I bought the Pentax K5 I thought I would have so many wonderful alpaca pictures to share with everyone. I was so excited when the K5 arrived because it’s so superior, in every way, to my old Panasonic. I knew there might be a learning curve so when my pictures didn’t come out, as nice as I wanted them to, I thought the problem was on my end.

It has been very frustrating and upsetting to see that the main subject in my photos was blurred most of the time. The other day I decided to get to the bottom of this problem. At first I thought maybe I’m getting old and I don’t realize that I might be shaking. Ok first of all I’m not that old and no I don’t shake so scratch that off. I tried every setting under all different kinds of conditions and still the alpacas in my pictures were out of focus 90% of the time.

Here are some examples. Take a look at the photos of this little alpaca, Passion and you’ll see why I’ve been pulling my hair out. You’ll notice in the first photo her face is blurry but the hair on her back is in focus. The second photo her face is very blurry and the fence in the background is in focus. The third photo is just a closer look so you can see how clear the fence looks. What is going on?!!!

I finally decided to search the web to see if other Pentax K5 users were having similar problems. Low and behold… yes there is a problem with the K5 camera back focusing due to a problem with the auto focus calibration being out of wack. I contacted Pentax and they suggested that I mail my camera to their service center in Arizona.

I read on a forum that someone sent their camera to Pentax to be serviced and that Cris did an excellent job fixing the focusing problem so I requested Cris to fix my camera. I mailed my camera in and it was returned within three weeks. They adjusted focus for optimal resolution focal point and adjusted to manufacturers specifications. I guess they adjusted my lenses too. They checked and cleaned everything. My camera came back and it was serviced by CRIS. I had to laugh because CRIS is not a person it is a camera servicing company, Criscam.com! lol!

Finally my Pentax K5 works the way it should. I’m so excited because my photos are turning out beautiful!!! Lately we’ve been so busy with shearing so now I just need to find the time to get out and take some alpaca photos!

Resurrection Day

You’re probably wondering why my headboard is the featured picture for Resurrection Day, Easter. Well I would like to share something very special with you. My Aunt gave me this beautiful cherry wood bedroom set years ago. One evening I prayed at the foot of my bed and asked God to be more real in my life. I know God is spiritual and we’re physical but I felt like I needed a hug or something to let me know He was really there with me. When I looked up I saw the letters E S in the middle of my headboard. I thought it must be a sign from God and when I looked closer I saw the letters JESUS in the wood grain in my headboard. Wow God opened my eyes and revealed Himself at that very moment as I was praying! An absolutely amazing experience and all I could think of was “wow Jesus is really here with me”!

Jesus Appears To Doubting Thomas
John 20:24-29 (ESV)
(24) Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. (25) So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” (26) Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”(27) Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”(28) Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”(29) Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Jesus Reveals Himself to Martha
John 11:25-26 (KJV)
(25)Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: (26)And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Salvation
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
(9)That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10)For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Immanuel in the Hebrew language means “God with us”.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Have a blessed Resurrection day and remember… yes Jesus is really here with us!

Raccoon

We have raccoons visiting every evening after we feed the alpacas. Mama raccoon had four babies so she’s very hungry and thirsty. She usually comes by herself and leaves her babies at home. I guess she’s not finding much to eat with the extreme heat.

Mama Raccoon

The other day she was hot. She was panting and acting like she was going to have a heat stroke. Dave sprayed her with the water… he scared her and she ran off. Then she stopped as if she realized it felt good and he wasn’t trying to hurt her. She came back and got on the edge of the tub of water and put her feet in the water.

A kodak moment and of course Dave didn’t call me. I’ve been waiting for that shot now for a few days but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I did however get her hanging out in a tree and I thought it turned out cute. I’ll have to take some more pictures the next time she brings her babies with her.

He’s not just another pretty face… he just doesn’t have a name yet. We need to come up with a name for this little boy. I sure he’s getting tired of hey you! In fact I have 3 little white boys I call hey you… a little confusing at times to say the least! icon smile No name yet

With Nobility for a dad and Elisabetta for a mom… hummm interesting combination and the possibilities? We’re open for suggestions!

Pretty Lady with Cachet

I picked out this photo for Mother’s Day. It’s a picture of Pretty Lady with her first cria, Cachet. I love this photo it’s such a tender moment as they bonded together… mother and daughter so appropriate for the day.

Dave and I would like to wish all of the mom’s out there a very special and blessed Mother’s Day!

Dave and Melody

Melody gives Dave a kiss

Dave let the alpacas out of their pens today. They had fun eating the grass growing in the front yard and down the driveway. Our natural alpaca mowers do a fantastic job mowing. This picture turned out really cute… Melody giving Dave a kiss. Maybe it’s her way of saying thank you!

Melody is Annie’s premature cria. She was born a month too early and had to be rushed to OSU. I’m happy to say Melody is doing great. She had to be supplemented for a couple of weeks until Annie’s milk came in. Annie turned out to be a wonderful mom. In fact it’s almost time to wean her from her mom. I hate to separate them… they are so cute together.

Cute Babies

It’s that time of the year again when we shear the alpacas.

This is so cute that I had to share this one… I caught this little cria nursing off her mom while Dave was trying to shear.

Got milk?

Then it got better… another little cria decided he was going to get some milk too. They were taking turns nursing off this female alpaca. She never moved the whole time while we were shearing her.
